Honeywell HPA100, HPA200 & HPA300 Filter Quantity Guide

Honeywell’s HPA100, HPA200, and HPA300 families all use Filter R, but they do not use the same quantity. One, two, or three HEPA R cartridges are installed depending on purifier size, alongside one size-specific carbon pre-filter. A listing can name the correct filter letter and still provide too few cartridges for a complete change.

1. Where to find the model number on the device label

Start with the rating label on the back or bottom of the purifier and copy the entire HPA model, including any suffix. Honeywell also places a replacement-filter reference sticker behind the removable front grille on many models; use it as a second check after unplugging the purifier.

The sticker behind the grille identifies filter requirements, while the external rating label identifies the appliance. Record both because a used purifier may contain a third-party filter whose printed number is not proof of the purifier model.

2. Similar models that do not use the same complete kit

HPA100-, HPA200-, and HPA300-size units share HEPA Filter R geometry but require different counts and differently sized pre-filter pieces. The complete HRF-ARVP100, HRF-ARVP200, and HRF-ARVP300 combo packs should not be treated as interchangeable kits.

Other Honeywell families can use Filter G, K, C, S, U, washable ifD filters, or model-specific assemblies. Similar black tower or console styling is not enough to transfer the HPA100–300 recommendation to an HFD, HHT, or unrelated HPA model.

3. Filter components and required quantity

HPA100-family purifiers require one HEPA R cartridge; HPA200-family purifiers require two; HPA300-family purifiers require three. Each purifier also uses one carbon pre-filter cut or pre-cut to the cabinet size. Honeywell lists universal HRF-AP1 or HRF-APP1 material and family-sized pre-cut alternatives.

A box labeled HRF-R1, R2, or R3 indicates pack quantity: one, two, or three Filter R cartridges. It does not indicate a different HEPA shape. Check the quantity against the purifier family before concluding that the price covers one full replacement cycle.

4. OEM and aftermarket buying cautions

An OEM combo pack is convenient only when its family size matches the label. Check whether the package includes pre-cut carbon pieces or universal material and follow the supplied cutting template. Do not operate the purifier without the pre-filter when the model instructions call for it.

Aftermarket listings often advertise HRF-R compatibility while selling a single cartridge. For HPA200 and HPA300, multiply the installed requirement before comparing cost. Confirm the carbon pre-filter separately; phrases such as HEPA replacement kit do not guarantee that the odor-reducing layer is included.

5. Common model-specific confusion

The filter letter R is frequently mistaken for the required count. HRF-R1, HRF-R2, and HRF-R3 are pack sizes, whereas the purifier model determines whether one, two, or three cartridges must be installed. HPA300 does not use a larger Filter R; it uses three standard cartridges side by side.

The pre-filter creates a second mix-up. A universal carbon sheet may need cutting, while an HPA100-, HPA200-, or HPA300-sized pack is pre-cut. Compare installed dimensions and package instructions instead of assuming every A pre-filter is ready to install unchanged.

6. Official-source check date and change history

Official US sources checked September 1, 2026: Honeywell Store’s Filter Types & Compatibility Guide, HPA100 and HPA200 product support, air-purifier filter catalog, and HPA family combo-pack pages.

Change log: September 1, 2026 — initial publication; documented the 1/2/3 HEPA R requirement and separated cartridge count from carbon pre-filter sizing. Future model additions will be recorded only when Honeywell explicitly places them in a family.

Filter Fit separates compatibility evidence from purchase availability. Exact model identity, region, revision, and authoritative source scope are reviewed before a relationship is treated as verified.
