How to Find Your Ceiling Fan Model Number
Turn off power and check the fan’s fixed identification label or manual. The model may be on top of the motor housing, inside a canopy, or on documentation; a number on the handheld remote identifies the remote and may not identify the fan.
Work safely
Switch off the fan and use the circuit breaker when access could expose wiring or require opening the canopy. Do not climb or disassemble beyond the manufacturer’s instructions. Use the manual or contact an electrician when the label is not safely visible.
Separate fan, remote, and receiver IDs
Photograph every relevant label and record where it was found. Remote and receiver identifiers are useful for matching the control system, but the fan model remains the starting point for product-level documentation.
| Label | Usually identifies |
|---|---|
| Fan model | The complete fan configuration |
| Remote model / FCC ID | The handheld transmitter |
| Receiver model | The installed control receiver |
| Serial number | One individual fan |
Match the identity to evidence
Use an official manual, manufacturer parts page, or support document that connects the exact product model to an exact replacement identifier. Marketplace compatibility lists can help discover a candidate, but they should not replace manufacturer evidence.

How this guide was prepared
Filter Fit separates compatibility evidence from purchase availability. Exact model identity, region, revision, and authoritative source scope are reviewed before a relationship is treated as verified.
